Raul Claros’ campaign is rooted in a deep, personal connection to Council District 1. Raised in the Mid-City area—between Koreatown and Pico-Union—Raul knows firsthand the challenges and strengths of these neighborhoods. Now raising his 9-year-old daughter Valentina in the district, Raul’s commitment to its future is both personal and intergenerational.
From overcoming family struggles to becoming a teacher, coach, community organizer, and executive, Raul’s journey reflects the resilience of CD1 residents. As a young person, he benefited from public programs like those offered by the Department of Recreation and Parks and LA’s Best After School—experiences that shaped his understanding of how public resources can transform lives. He’s carried that understanding forward through initiatives like Life Skills Sports Academy, University Little League, and his leadership as Executive Director of the American Red Cross.
